All leather boots
An important part of being in uniform is maintaining a professional and smart appearance. All leather boots can be cleaned, polished and maintained. Models such as the Lowa Combat Mk2, AKU Griffon as well as variants of the HAIX Black Eagle designs are options in this category.
All leather boots are typically heavier than hybrid or all man-made material designs so consider this carefully.
Goretex vs. non-Goretex
The big question, and there’s a few things to take into account.
What is Goretex? Goretex, often abbreviated to GTX in product names is a premium waterproof fabric. Variations of it are used throughout the outdoor products. In footwear Goretex is lined on the inside of the boot to provide residence to water if the boot was exposed to rain for example.

If you anticipate you might be wearing your boots out in the elements then Goretex is usually preferred, although well maintained and polished all leather boots offer good water resistance.
Goretex is a breathable fabric that allows your feet to breath whilst maintaining a resistance to any water from the outside. That said, if wearing boots in hot weather a waterproof lining can sometimes lead to sweating and feeling overly insulated.
Contemporary models
Recently, the tactical and military boot design trends have been moving away from the traditional high leg combat style boot has been moving towards a shorter leg, hybrid leather/material designs such as the AKU Pilgrim, Lowa Breacher as well as some man-made material variants by HAIX and others.

These models offer a mix of the rugged design features of a traditional combat boot paired with lighter in weight and shorter in height found more commonly in walking boots.
Lightweight next generation
A spotlight model – checkout the AKU Sentinel, available in both a high leg and mid leg version. This boot offer a hybrid option with a speed lacing system, anti-slip sole.

Who else uses black tactical boot?
Many of these styles are also worn by Fire and Rescue Services for scenarios that don’t require a fire resistant design as well as paramedics and private security.
